Food For Thought: What Ever Happened To Repentance?
“And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” (Acts 17:30-31)
Because there is a judgment coming to every one of us, God commands us to examine ourselves and to REPENT.
That doesn’t mean to be sorry. It also does not mean to try to do better. Repentance happens when godly sorrow works in our hearts so that we see our sin the way God does: as filthy and defiling. Only then can we truly repent and reject the sin and cry out to Jesus to help us change. It is not within our own power to change. We need the Holy Ghost within us to do a work in our lives.
Too many today are making excuses for our sinfulness. We deflect, justify, and plead ignorance. But none of those things will excuse us on judgment day. We need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds on a daily basis. We need to surrender our will to Jesus.
A Christian cannot possibly experience the blessings of God while continuing in willful sin, and that includes sin we self-justify and excuse and minimize for the sake of our own lust. These things bring chastisement upon the children of God.
If your attitude is that you just sin differently, or that “Only God can judge you”, then let me encourage you to examine your heart. If Jesus is in there, you will WANT to live for Him, in holiness and righteousness.
One more thing.. Our sin is our own. We can’t blame anyone else for our own choices. Missing Joy is almost always a direct result of missing repentance. #SeekTruth
